The format
- Style
- Modified Personal Interview (MPI), not an MMI
- Structure
- Four independent interviews, each assessed by a different interviewer, approximately 12 minutes each. Interviewers may include physicians, medical students, residents, other health professionals and community members.
- Delivery
- Both formats are in use. A virtual variant, the vMPI, uses asynchronous video responses of approximately 5 minutes.
Three mistakes that cost people here
- Preparing for an MMI circuit. Toronto is the only Canadian school using the MPI, and the two reward different things.
- Treating four interviews as four chances at the same conversation. Each interviewer assesses independently, so a story told well in one does not carry into the next.
- Rushing the asynchronous vMPI. Five minutes of recorded video with no interviewer reacting is far longer than it feels.
